As the November DELF exam season approaches, many parents begin asking similar questions:

  • Which DELF level should my child take?

  • What do A1.1, A1, A2, B1 and B2 actually mean?

  • Can students skip a level?

  • What level of French do students usually achieve through school programmes?

Let's start with the most important question: what does each DELF level actually represent?

Can Students Skip a DELF Level? Yes.

DELF does not require students to complete every level in sequence. A student may choose A2 as their first DELF examination or move directly from A1 to B1. However, DELF assesses listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. The most suitable level should therefore be based on overall proficiency rather than simply aiming for the highest possible exam
